2014 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir - Jigar Wines
Bing cherry, perfumed iris, spiced pomegranate. Juicy raspberry, cinnamon stick, orange peel. Crushed clove and exotic spice, dried stems and olive tapenade. Wispy red fruit wafts delicately above sand and spices, as clean freshness sweeps through like a forest after rain. Cranberry cocktail meets strawberry compote peppered with nutmeg and fresh flowers. This 2014 Russian River Valley Pinot Noir by Jigar Wines is balanced, restrained, and wonderfully seductive.
One of the best parts about tasting a wide range of wine is the feeling of surprise that hits you when a bottle catches you totally off guard. This bottle, crafted by Jigar Wines using fruit from Sonoma's Russian River Valley, is exactly one of those wines. It is clean, fresh, and dainty - exhibiting pronounced spice and earth tones below a haunting bouquet of gorgeous fruit. Curiously there are no goldridge soil or pronounced cola notes to be found here, but instead clean sandy sous bois reminiscent of a more coastal appellation. This is pretty Pinot Noir; not something that could ever be described as a "Cab drinker's Pinot". Classic, acid driven, with stem & oak input that is just right. Consider us a fan here.
