2016 Estate Vineyard Brut Rose - Handley Cellars
Barely ripe strawberry, white mushroom, tart red cherry. Delicate raspberry, raw dough, shaved citrus peel. Forest floor and tilled soil, baby's-breath and white peonies. Lean, clean, and dainty berry fruit shines brightly with great expanse while complimented by crunchy watermelon, ruby grapefruit, and peach skin. The soft fruit is quickly matched by savory and sous bois as thyme, moss, and undergrowth provide a pleasant earthy undertone. Granular salt and gravely minerals join in contrast to yeast and beautiful leesy funk that is more complex and cerebral than cute and quaffable. Intensely effervescent with a crisp mousse packed within a medium bodied frame with medium plus acidity. This 2016 Estate Vineyard Brut Rose by Handley Cellars is a well-made high-quality sparkling wine from Anderson Valley.
The Anderson Valley of Mendocino County has firmly established its reputation as one of California's premier appellations for the production of sparkling wine. Located just north of Sonoma County not far from the Pacific Ocean, this region experiences consistently cool and sunny summer days that are perfect for achieving gradual ripening while maintaining precious acidity. This bottling, crafted by Handley Cellars using 70% Pinot Noir and 30% Chardonnay sourced from their estate vineyard in Philo, is a tremendously compelling example of the potential of this region for quality bubbly. This wine is refreshing, expressive, and bright while also maintaining delicious earthy nuance as it embraces its terroir with beautiful balance and tremendous authenticity. This is a wonderful bottle of bubbly that doesn't miss a beat.
