2013 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese - Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler
Crushed Georgia peach, wild honey, candied lime. Fresh picked apricot, cool slate, pineapple in syrup. Fragrant honeysuckle and acacia, gunpowder and struck flint. Canned pear, cider apple, and nectarine puree generously provide oodles of ripe and succulent fruit that are begrudgingly outshined by a hauntingly aromatic concoction of petrol fumes and honey. Spring pollen and sweet florals attempt to make their best impression but ultimately cannot outshine the ripe kerosene-drenched fruit. A wonderfully earthy and reductive edge provides cut and complexity bolstered by nice botrytis-driven notes of mushroom and spice. Medium-dry on the palate with surprising broadness and breadth; sitting at medium minus in body with high acidity and very low alcohol. Generous, inviting, and thirst-quenchingly delicious. This 2013 Graacher Himmelreich Riesling Spätlese by Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler is a fresh, fruity, and succulent white from Mosel Germany.
Although pairing wine with holiday meals can be difficult due to the wide variety of options on the table, Riesling is almost always a perfect choice thanks to its vibrant freshness and acidity. This bottling, crafted by Dr. Heidemanns-Bergweiler using Riesling sourced from the steep slopes of the Graacher Himmelreich Vineyard in the Mosel, is an excellent choice to go with nearly any holiday meal. Its bright and intense fruitiness, warming honeyed character, and slight sweetness should enhance anything from green bean casserole to honey-baked ham, and its low 8% ABV will keep you in the game long enough to go back for seconds and thirds. This is a delicious bottle of wine that the whole family can enjoy together as they celebrate the holidays.
