2017 Gavi - Ricossa Antica Casa

Ricossa Gavi.jpg

Squeezed lemon, coarse sea salt, tart green apple. Fresh lime, almond skin, underripe white peach. Flower petal and citrus blossom, sea shells and crushed limestone. Shaved citrus peel and quince explode with remarkable tartness and zing backed immediately by beautifully pronounced saline minerality. Mild florals a touch of phenolic character emerge with careful observation but pale in comparison to salty citrus-driven zip. Fresh, clean, and focused; writhing with high acidity that drinks with crisp deliciousness inside a lean light bodied frame. Bone dry, extremely tart, and exceptionally refreshing. This 2017 Gavi by Ricossa Antica Casa is a well made and terroir-expressive white from Piedmont Italy.

Located in the southeastern corner of Piedmont not far from the Mediterranean sea, Gavi is a region dedicated to the production of strictly white wine made from the local grape Cortese. This classic viticultural area was granted DOCG status in 1998 and is considered to produce some of Italy's highest quality whites. This bottling, crafted by Ricossa Antica Casa using Cortese sourced from within the appellation of Gavi, is a wonderful example of this region's signature style. It is fresh, bright, and mineral - beautifully showcasing its calcareous coastal terroir along with crisp and energetic citrus-focused fruit. This is an excellent and thoroughly enjoyable Italian white sure to pair spectacularly with seafood, yet substantial enough to enjoy on its own.
