2017 Estate Grenache - Folded Hills

Juicy red cherry, fresh mint, crunchy raspberry. Strawberry bubblegum, rose water, sweet pomegranate. Cranberry cocktail, fruit punch, and red gummy bear harmonize in perfect unison to create an incredibly delicate yet pristinely pure-fruited core pulsing with gorgeous weightless intensity. Cherry blossom and white sage emerge like a spring bloom imparting complicating aromatics that do not detract from the fruit's high-toned brilliance. A dash of sea salt, a sprinkle of cardamom, and a pinch of white pepper present a gentle layer of spice that remains perfectly in-sync within the dainty yet extraordinarily expressive attack. Beautifully minimalist and wonderfully feminine in character while exhibiting incredibly effortless poise and restraint. Medium in body with moderate yet soft tannin and gorgeously refreshing acidity. This 2017 Estate Grenache by Folded Hills is an outstanding cool climate red from the edge of Santa Barbara's Santa Ynez Valley.

Although Grenache is often considered a hot climate variety the steady sunshine and long growing seasons of coastal California can allow for it to ripen even in a climate that would otherwise be far too cold. This bottling, crafted by Folded Hills using Grenache sourced from their estate vineyard located just miles from the coast in Santa Barbara County, is an unbelievably delicious example of how successful this grape can be when grown in these unique conditions. First impressions put this wine almost into Pinot Noir territory, as its ethereal subtleties explode from the glass to provide intense and immediate olfactory stimulation. It is bright and inviting yet strikingly complex; intriguing the senses and caressing the palate with equal conviction. This atypical yet stunning wine is a treat, and something that must be tasted to be understood.
