2014 For Ross-Seaview Syrah - Failla Wines

Wild blackberry, anise, whole peppercorn. Fresh picked raspberry, tart blueberry, clove. Brand new leather meets pitch black cherry and maybe even a hint of cola. What could be dense and dark is actually refreshingly light and airy - with beaming acidity and tannins of crushed velvet. This 2014 Fort Ross-Seaview Syrah by Failla Wines proves cool climate Syrah can thrive outside of the Northen Rhone.

While on staff as winemaker for Turley Wine Cellars Ehren Jordan started Failla Wines in 1998. In contrast to the big, brash, 16% alcohol Zinfandels he made at Turley, Ehren chose to create ultra cool climate wines primarily from a small estate vineyard in the Fort Ross-Seaview AVA of the Sonoma Coast. This cool, foggy, mountainous terrain was long thought to be too cold to ripen wine grapes, yet at the time a few adventurous soles were planting vines and Ehren joined right in. Ehren was inspired by his time working in the Northern Rhone to replicate the complex, delicate style of Syrah in California and he found Fort Ross-Seaview to be a perfect fit. In an area known primarily for its Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, Failla wines has crafted a distinguished and completely unique Syrah that is unlike anything else coming out of the golden state. Ultra-cool climate Syrah will be the next big thing coming out of California and you can absolutely quote us on that.
