2015 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon - Ehret Family Wines
Homemade blackberry pie, roasted tobacco, blueberry reduction. Chocolate mousse, powdered nutmeg, strawberry glaze. Silky cassis, baked plum, and cherry cobbler collide with mocha, cinnamon, and cigar box in a remarkably opulent and mouth-filling display. Cool spearmint, sage, and eucalyptus swiftly emerge to impart a clean herbal edge bolstered by violet concentrate and a densely-packed bouquet of purple flowers. A sensual barrage of baking aromas highlighted by vanilla, clove, and pie crust waft boisterously above the bold and seductive attack complicated by pleasing impressions of sandalwood and new cedar. Fruit forward, expressive, and monumentally endowed; featuring subtle tones of loamy soil that provide mild earthiness to an unabashedly rich and voluptuous profile. Full bodied with an elevated dose of satiny tannin backed by moderate acidity. This 2015 Estate Cabernet Sauvignon by Ehret Family Wines is an impressively supple and decadent red from Knights Valley.
While it technically sits within the borders of Sonoma County, the appellation of Knights Valley directly abuts Napa to its east and produces wines that can be noticeably Napa-like in character. This bottling, crafted by Ehret Family Wines using a blend of 75% Cab Sauv/21% Cab Franc/4% Merlot sourced from their estate vineyard in Knights Valley, gorgeously showcases the character of this region at its most plush and luxurious. Although quite ripe and concentrated in nature this wine manages to achieve incredible textural elegance thanks to soft and chewy tannins that frame it in a beautifully polished sheen. It has been crafted in a premium cult-style and executes on its intentions phenomenally - despite ringing in at a fraction of the cost of most similar Napa offerings. This is a big, sexy, and delicious red by a seriously noteworthy Sonoma County estate.
