2018 Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir - Eden Rift Vineyards
Fresh strawberry, whole chalk, underripe peach. Citrus zest, mint leaf, diluted cranberry juice. Wildflowers and white sage, sprig of thyme and subtle rosemary. Tart raspberry, crunchy rhubarb, and squeezed lemon lead a clean and energetic attack undercut with droves of distinctly calcareous minerality. Citrus blossom and soft florals emerge to add a bit of lift white fresh garden herbs compliment layered complexity. Impressively balanced, expressing near perfect parity between pure fruit and limestone-laden earthiness while finishing with wonderful crunchy freshness and a pinch of salinity. Decidedly dry and ample in size for a rosé, coming in at just over medium in body, yet driven by high acidity that helps maintain laser-like focus. This 2018 Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir by Eden Rift Vineyards is a masterfully crafted and brilliantly refreshing cool climate vin gris from one of California's most unique terroirs.
Located at the base of an active limestone quarry in the Gabilan Mountains of San Benito County, Eden Rift Vineyards possesses perhaps the best source material in California to create crisp mineral-driven rosé. This bottling, crafted by Eden Rift using 100% estate grown Pinot Noir harvested specifically for rosé production, is an extraordinarily impressive example of the merits of this site. Sitting at 13.8% ABV this wine is neither thin nor shy, and it manages to project impressive chalky minerality to match its generous concentration of bright and tart fruit. It has clearly been shaped with high levels of intentionality and succeeds in remaining as fresh and drinkable as it is complex and serious. This is an extremely well made and delicious wine that can - and should - be enjoyed all year long.
