2017 Havlin Vineyard Carbonic Pinot Noir - Deux Punx Wines
Cherry bubblegum, pine nut, boysenberry tea. Fresh blueberry, black truffle oil, sweet red raspberry. Blooming iris and perfumed violet, green leaves and tree bark. Delightfully upbeat and peppy up front with bruised strawberry, berry cola, and grape snow cone pouring in with unrelenting juiciness and crunch. Lavender oil and bright flowers emerge in unison bringing more cheerful joy before loamy soil and evergreen inject a touch of earth. Cinnamon, salt, and white pepper compliment delicate spice barely recognizable over the flashy forward fruit. Extremely fresh, ripe, and spunky, with an interesting light effervescence and an undeniable yum-factor. Medium in body with elevated gritty tannin and medium plus acidity. This 2017 Havlin Vineyard Carbonic Pinot Noir by Deux Punx Wines is a brilliantly authentic, imaginative, and delicious Oregon red.
While Willamette Valley Pinot Noir is an unquestionably serious genre of wine there is absolutely no reason why some offerings from the region cannot be designed for pure fun. This bottling, crafted by Deux Punx Wines using Pinot Noir sourced from the Havlin Vineyard and fermented carbonically, is an outstanding example of a well-executed alternative take on a Willamette staple. This wine is delightfully chock-full of bright fruit and light earthiness that comes across extremely drinkable and delicious. The low-intervention carbonic winemaking approach has retained tremendously pure primarily character that tastes almost like biting straight into a plump cluster of Pinot Noir grapes. Though it is thoroughly unpretentious there is still plenty of complexity to be found here. This is an awesome wine that we discovered thanks to our friends at Rae Vino.
