2015 Paso Robles "Reconciliation" - Dubost Winery

Black plum skin, red bell pepper, black currant. Dried goji berry, begonias, mashed huckleberry. Cedar and dark chocolate, fresh dill and sweet mesquite. Friendly & familiar vanilla & oak tones augment a parsley tinged pyrazine laden baked fruit blitzkrieg. Like walking up your driveway with a mixed berry cobbler in hand - but suddenly tripping and dumping it face down into your prized spice garden. This 2015 Paso Robles "Reconciliation" by Dubost Winery is NOT your average Bordeaux blend.

"Reconciliation" is defined as the restoration of friendly relations. This wine not only contains all of the big five Bordeaux varietals, but it also incorporates a sixth! Dubost Winery took the long lost Bordeaux grape of Carmenere and reintroduced it into this blend. Comprised of 20% each of Carmenere, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot - plus 10% of both Malbec and Petit Verdot, this wine reconciles what were once the 6 most popular Bordeaux grapes into one interesting wine. The herbaceousness of Carmenere and Cabernet Franc are pronounced but mesh beautifully with the juicy darkness of Merlot, Malbec, and Cabernet Sauvignon. Petit Verdot adds poise and structure and when you sum it all up plus a little bit of warm Paso Robles sunshine it equates to a truly amusing and engaging drink. Kudos to Dubost for making this great reunion happen!
