2018 Wallula Vineyard Rosé of Cinsaut - Den Hoed Wine Estate
Young strawberry, rose water, crunchy raspberry. Rainier cherry, mint leaf, ruby grapefruit. Pond lilies and peonies, cool granite and smooth gravel. Fresh and bright fruit initiates the attack, offering a medley of crispy watermelon and underripe peach that leans sharply towards delicate restraint over power or saturation. Dainty floral notes soon follow supplemented by just a hint of clean coniferous fragrance. Stony minerality edges out control towards the finish line providing an interesting earthy tilt of lacquered marble and loess. Medium in body with high acidity and a distinct sense of focus and drive. This 2018 Wallula Vineyard Rosé of Cinsaut by Den Hoed Wine Estates is a complex and refreshing single vineyard wine from Washington State.
Cinsaut (aka Cinsault) is black-skinned grape variety common throughout southern France and nearby regions. It has the potential to produce deliciously fruity and fragrant wine when yields are restricted and is one of the key varieties found in the rosés of Provence. This bottling, crafted by Den Hoed Wine Estates using 100% Cinsaut sourced from their Wallula Vineyard in Washington's Horse Heaven Hills, is an excellent new world example of a classic style of Rosé. This wine is remarkably refreshing and composed as well as deliciously earth-driven. Its balance and freshness are distinctly Provençal in style and it possesses intriguing personality and depth. A really impressive single vineyard Rosé that is simultaneously fun and quite serious.
