2017 Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc - Crosby Roamann
Grilled peach, vanilla extract, key lime pie. Gooseberry jam, wood smoke, cinnamon poached pear. Graham cracker and creme brûlée, basil leaf and dried grass. Toasted confections and fruity desserts rule the initial attack, oozing lemon preserve, pineapple syrup, and warm grapefruit pith with density and decadence. A white chocolate drizzle coats caramel-dipped shortbread cookie as nutmeg, clove, and sweet baking spice turn the scene even more indulgent. Restrained notes of Apple blossom and dusty earth fail to slow down the nectarous parade that struts with unapologetically plush opulence. Succulent and stylized with a rich full bodied mouthfeel and medium acidity. This 2017 Rutherford Sauvignon Blanc by Crosby Roamann is a lush and exuberant Napa Valley white.
Chardonnay is often said to be the most adaptable and climate-tolerant white wine grape in the world, but an argument could be made that Sauvignon Blanc can succeed virtually anywhere Chardonnay can. This bottling, crafted by Crosby Roamann using Sauvignon Blanc sourced from a single vineyard in Rutherford appellation of Napa Valley, proves that Sauvignon Blanc can produce interesting wine in warm climates in addition to colder ones. This wine is certainly ripe and round as one would expect from fruit grown on the valley floor yet it maintains sufficient acidity to avoid coming off overly flabby or flat. A percentage of new oak has further accentuated its overtly forward profile and helped create an extravagantly hedonistic delight. This is a full-throttle mouth filling wine with plenty of voluptuous curves.
