2018 Collio Ribolla Gialla - Gradis'ciutta
Lemon zest, crushed limestone, Fuji apple. Lime peel, fresh parsley, underripe peach. A playfully tart and zippy procession of fresh-squeezed citrus, nectarine pit, and green pear struts with lively and energetic enthusiasm as notes of oregano, almond, and garden herbs quietly impart a pleasant lightly bitter edge. Bursts of sea spray, stony minerals, and clean salinity reveal waves of gorgeous marine-influenced earthiness that leave an intriguing and grippy sense of minerality to enhance their unique flavors. Subtle wafts of dandelions, wild flowers, and white blossoms round out the display with lifted yet unpretentious floral tones tightened by just a pinch of flinty reduction. Clean, pure, and pretty on both the nose and the palate with a wonderful combination of complexity and restraint; exhibiting a delicate yet mouth-filling presentation that remains classic and gastronomic while still thoroughly interesting and nuanced. Medium in body with subtle phenolic grip brightening by beautifully high acidity. This 2018 Collio Ribolla Gialla by Gradis'ciutta is a terrifically elegant and delicious white from Friuli-Venezia Giulia.
As a legendary and ancient grape native to northeastern Italy, Ribolla Gialla is often considered one of Italy's finest white wine varieties for its inimitable ability to express both bright fruit and captivating minerality.
