2016 Chinon Le Pre Vaujour - Compagnie Vinicole Du Val De Loire
Juicy huckleberry, bay leaf, wild cherry. Tart raspberry, young rose petal, strawberry glaze. Fresh basil and rosemary, limestone and wet gravel. Delicate yet untamed berry fruit blooms atop a beautiful bouquet of savory garden herbs and wildflowers. Fruit focused, clean, and green with fresh acidity and present yet gentle tannin. This 2016 Chinon Le Pre Vaujour by Compagnie Vinicole Du Val De Loire is delicious and juicy Cab Franc from the Loire Valley.
France's Loire Valley has a storied history of quality wine production. This long fertile stretch of land begins near Paris and reaches almost all the way to the Atlantic Ocean. It is home to many wonderfully unique sub-regions and a plethora of different styles of wine. This bottling, sourced from 100% Cabernet Franc from the village of Chinon, is on the brighter end of the spectrum for this zone. It is relatively light-bodied providing enjoyable weightlessness and refreshment. The fruit profile is dominated by berries and begins dark, but red notes eventually come to the forefront. Light baking spices are present and mesh well with herbaceous grassy tones and sage. Soil components are distinguishable and add further complexity. This stuff is extremely fun and food friendly, and is a remarkable value to-boot. We dig it!
