NV Brut "L'Héritage De Serge" Premier Cru Blanc de Noirs - Champagne Barbier-Louvet

Bright Rainier cherry, oyster shell, fresh squeezed lemon. Crunchy nectarine, citrus blossom, underripe mango. Green apple, ruby grapefruit, and peach skin highlight an expressive and beautifully aromatic fruit core brilliantly complicated by chalk dust, wild flowers, and brioche. Notes of honeysuckle, fresh hay, and spring bloom extend the reach of pretty natural perfume as subtle wafts of French baguette reveal underlying autolytic complexity. Lasting impressions of sea salt and crushed calcareous rock writhe within the surprisingly expansive yet elegant attack carefully accentuating tension and focus. Lively, energetic, and quite dry on the palate; sporting a broad yet crisp mouthfeel backed by very fine and delicate mousse. Medium in body with high acidity. This NV Brut "L'Héritage De Serge" Premier Cru Blanc de Noirs by Champagne Barbier-Louvet is a wonderfully complex and terroir expressive grower Champagne from the Montagne de Reims.

Although Champagne boasts more small independent growers than nearly any other wine region in the world, the actual production and bottling of the wines of Champagne has for centuries been dominated by large commercial houses. However, in recent decades more growers have begun bottling and selling wine under their own labels which has led to a wonderful surge in the availability of small production single village offerings. This bottling, crafted by Champagne Barbier-Louvet using 100% Pinot Noir grown in Tauxières-Mutry, is an outstanding example of why the grower/producer revolution has found such tremendous success. Made entirely using fruit from a 99% rated Premier Cru village directly adjacent to Bouzy, this wine brilliantly expresses the tremendous depth and complexity possible when Pinot Noir is grown in one of Champagne's greatest terroirs. With excellent execution it skillfully embodies a powerful and expressive style while retaining great tension, focus, and verve. This is an undoubtedly impressive offering that is worth seeking out.
