2019 Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay - Bruliam Wines

Meyer lemon zest, fresh jasmine, crisp yellow apple. Tart loquat, French vanilla, Almost-ripe nectarine. Beautifully pure and pristine impressions of pineapple core, Mirabelle plum, and Bosc pear writhe with edgy and energetic enthusiasm as hints of brioche, cashew, and crème fraîche complicate the display with a range of delicious secondary undertones. Wafts of cinnamon and nutmeg gradually emerge to reveal a thread of pretty baking spices further bolstered in charm by notes of wildflowers, honeysuckle, and dainty floral character. Underlying suggestions of stony minerality and clean salinity emphatically provide a glimpse of gorgeous coastal terroir to beautifully support the tart and driving attack. Crisp, crunchy, and classically styled on the palate while retaining excellent depth and intensity; exhibiting a delightfully nervy yet still elegant and restrained presentation that showcases new world fruit balanced with old world sensibility. Medium in body and bursting with bright acidity. This 2019 Heintz Vineyard Chardonnay by Bruliam Wines is a wonderfully complex and exciting white from the Sonoma Coast.

Located not far from the western edge of the Sonoma Coast appellation just outside the town of Occidental, the legendary Heintz Vineyard was first planted in 1982 and over many decades has become one of the most revered cool climate sites in the region. This bottling, crafted by Bruliam Wines using Chardonnay sourced solely from the Heintz Vineyard, brilliantly captures the raw tension and energy this unique terroir imparts on its wines. This delicately broods in the glass with a range of intense yet perfectly elegant yellow fruits marvelously complicated by mild floral tones, gorgeous leesy notes, pretty earthiness, and well integrated barrel spice. It is fantastically Burgundian in style though perhaps with a bit more ripeness, and has the structure to be quite age worthy while still downright delicious today. Excellent.
