2019 Estate Viognier - Brick Barn Wine Estate

Canned pear, blooming honeysuckle, guava nectar. Banana bread, weathered rocks, succulent peach. Astoundly seductive and sweet-scented aromas of lemon preserves, pineapple, and lychee captivate the senses with fresh yet unctuous intensity within a downright bold and wildly expressive display. Notes of fragrant plumeria and fresh jasmine further enhance attention-grabbing perfume with high-toned floral charm that is bolstered in decadence by hints of beeswax, sugar cane, and a drizzle of honey. Impressions of banana leaf and tropical rainforest provide just a pinch of natural complexity while flecks of sandy soil and stony minerality impart understated bits of earthiness. Immensely forward, outgoing, and flavor-packed on the nose while remaining broad yet surprisingly tart, dry, and crisp on the palate; exhibiting impressive weight and outstanding depth while still remaining wonderfully lively and balanced. Full bodied and backed by moderate acidity. This 2019 Estate Viognier by Brick Barn Wine Estate is a rich and powerful white from Santa Barbara's Santa Ynez Valley.

Native to France's Rhone Valley and widely planted in a number of new world regions, Vionier is an aromatic white wine grape that has become legendary for the rich and flamboyantly perfumed wine it creates. This bottling, crafted by Brick Barn Wine Estate using Viognier grown at their estate vineyard in the western Santa Ynez Valley, is an excellent example of how wonderfully this variety thrives in cool yet sunny Santa Barbara. From the second the cork is pulled this wine gleefully gushes with a ripe and tropical fruit cocktail complicated by pronounced floral tones, waxy honeyed notes, and subtle earthiness. Although it is absolutely flavor-packed this manages to maintain nice freshness on the palate, and beautifully expresses a beguiling combination of intensity and balance. Very nice.
