2019 Late Harvest Viognier - Brick Barn Wine Estates
Sweet lychee, blooming plumeria, candied orange peel. Succulent mango, fresh beeswax, apricot gummies. Dazzlingly exotic and tropical gushes of passion fruit, canned peach, and pineapple flood the senses with waves luscious and seductive opulence as pronounced notes of honeysuckle, gardenias, and hibiscus boldly contribute lavish layers of rich floral perfume. Subtle hints of ginger and mushroom gently reveal just a touch of complicating botrytis influence while impressions of banana peel and baked almond impart ever-so-delicate natural charms. A generous drizzling of honey completes the presentation with striking yet well-balanced sweetness that remains thoroughly opulent yet not the slightest bit cloying. Oily, vicious, and mouth-filling on the palate with incredible concentration and length; exhibiting astoundingly expressive aromatics that can only be described as a tropical fruit explosion. Full bodied and unctuous yet delightfully fresh thanks to nicely balanced acidity. This 2019 Late Harvest Viognier by Brick Barn Wine Estate is a deliciously decadent and nectarous dessert wine from Santa Barbara's Santa Ynez Valley.
Though it is most often made into dry white table wine, Viognier is a variety known for rapid accumulation of sugar in its berries which lends itself perfectly to the production of sinfully sweet dessert wine. This bottling, crafted by Brick Barn Wine Estate using Viognier grown at their estate vineyard in the Santa Ynez Valley, beautifully showcases the incredible things this grape can do with an extended period of ripening. This wine gleefully emits highly aromatic notes of ripe tropical and stone fruits accompanied by bold floral tones, a pinch of botrytis, and gobs of sticky honey. Though it is lusciously sweet it remains quite fresh and lively on the palate, and would be a delight to pair with a variety of fresh fruits and cheeses. Excellent.
