2017 Estate Albariño - Brick Barn Wine Estates

Ripe green apple, sea salt, white nectarine. Honeydew melon, dried grass, fresh squeezed lime. Green mango, lemon pith, and passion fruit highlight a ripe yet incredibly snappy fruit core brimming with near-puckering tartness and clean salinity. Fragrant aromas of honeysuckle and peonies eagerly emerge to provide a layer sweet floral perfume aided by subtle notes of candied ginger and white pepper. Mild impressions of peach pit and almond skin reveal just a hint of phenolic complexity before a stainless steel, sour candy, and stony minerality seize control of the finish. Round and big-fruited while remaining extraordinarily fresh and vibrant; exhibiting tremendous zing and just a touch of effervescence that eventually dissipates with air. Medium plus in body and quite dry with oodles of pronounced lingering acidity. This 2017 Estate Albariño by Brick Barn Wine Estates is a delightfully zippy and refreshing white from Santa Barbara's Santa Ynez Valley.

Native to the cool coastal region of Galicia in northwestern Spain, Albariño is a beloved white wine grape that has proven ideally suited to the sandy soils and cold foggy mornings of California's central coast. This bottling, crafted by Brick Barn Wine Estate using Albariño sourced from their estate vineyard just outside the boundary of the Santa Rita Hills, beautifully showcases the potential of this variety in legendary Santa Barbara County terroir. While it contains a substantial helping of sunshine-filled fruit this wine remains impressively tart and crunchy thanks to a firm and persistent streak of acidity. Lite minerality and saline character further contribute to palpable freshness while leaning out ample concentration. This is a wonderfully fun and delicious offering perfect to enjoy outside as the weather begins to warm.
