2017 Bourgogne Blanc - Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey

Meyer lemon, honeysuckle, Granny Smith apple. Tart nectarine, wet chalk, white raspberry. Crushed clove and limestone, spring flowers and cucumber flesh. Expressive yet delicate fruit wafts into a perfumed bouquet, showcasing not only citrus zest and apple but also a uniquely sweet yellow cherry note. Tightly wound and tense on the palate with substantial mineral grip, expressing just a pinch of flinty reduction to compliment a light dusting of yeast. Tart, lean, and perhaps a bit angular, with high acidity pulsing through its medium body. This 2017 Bourgogne Blanc by Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is an interesting entry-level white Burgundy by one of the region's brightest stars.

Pierre-Yves Colin-Morey is the byproduct of two well-entrenched Burgundian families coming together via the marriage of Pierre-Yves Colin and Caroline Morey. While PYCM is itself a young domaine it carries with it a strong history of quality winemaking and has rapidly risen to significant international fame. This bottling, crafted by PYCM using 100% Chardonnay sourced from three vineyards within the Côte de Beaune, is a great introduction into this house's lauded style. It is eccentric and highly energetic with a focus on both beautifully high-toned fruit and pronounced minerality. While certainly not the deepest nor most complex expression of white Burgundy this wine is extremely solid, and should serve to inspire a deeper dive into the wines of PYCM. We definitely enjoyed it.
