2020 “Laughing Pig Rosé - Big Table Farm
Juicy strawberry, fresh peonies, succulent mirabelle plum. Maraschino cherry, pine needle, sweet clementine. A dazzlingly vibrant and youthful procession of ripe raspberry, nectarine, and apricot dance with bright and expressive luster within a deliciously characterful and downright exciting display. Notes of wildflowers, hydrangeas, and hibiscus cheerfully emerge to provide pretty floral overtones that intersect with pleasant hints of fresh herbs, clean forest air, and mint. Subtle earthy suggestions of loamy soil and salty minerality expose a delicate reflection of terroir that does not distract from the delightfully juicy and outgoing fruit. Beautifully tart, dry, and playful on the palate while remaining surprisingly complex and substantial in concentration; exhibiting a thoroughly unique and interesting expression of a well loved region and wine style. Medium plus bodied with light tannin carried by nicely elevated acidity. This 2020 "Laughing Pig Rosé" by Big Table Farm is a fun and original rosé from Oregon's Willamette Valley.
While a number of different wine styles are capable of pairing well with multi-course holiday meals, perhaps no style of still wine can be more adaptable at the table than rosé. This bottling, crafted by Big Table Farm using a unique 50/50 combination of direct press and unpressed Pinot Noir fruit, is an excellent example of a delicious and highly gastronomic rosé. This wine boasts an expressive fruit profile gushing with red berries, citrus, and stone fruits accompanied by pleasant floral charm, hints of fresh herbs, and subtle earthiness. While perfect alongside a meal this also is quite fun to sip and savor on its own, and has the structure and concentration to hold well for at least a few years in bottle. Yum.
