2018 Sunnyside Vineyard Pinot Noir - Big Table Farm

Wild black raspberry, crunchy leaves, organic strawberry. Tart cranberry, turned earth, almost-ripe red plum. Pure and expressive undulations of Bing cherry, blackberry, and rhubarb pulse with juicy and unmanipulated beauty as hints of pine tree, black olive, and coriander build layers of riveting complexity. Subtle yet beguiling wafts of rose petals and violet gracefully emerge amidst delicate floral overtones that intertwine with cinnamon and cardamom in a pretty and intricately spiced display. Notes of tilled soil and autumn forest advance notions of natural charm while flecks of iron and loam provide a distinct reflection of place. Enchantingly bright, clean, and youthful on the palate with oodles of primary juiciness and crunch; exhibiting excellent poise and restraint while coming across wholey genuine and pure. Medium in body with moderate tannin backed by elevated acidity. This 2018 Sunnyside Vineyard Pinot Noir by Big Table Farm is a charmingly authentic and attractive red from Oregon's Willamette Valley.

While commercial winegrowing in Oregon did not truly begin to boom until the 1980's, early Willamette Valley viticultural pioneers had already begun setting the framework for the region's success in the late 60's and early 70's. This bottling crafted by Big Table Farm using Pinot Noir sourced from the Sunnyside Vineyard located just south of Salem, provides a precious glimpse into one of the earlier Pinot vineyards to pop up in Oregon. Coming from a modest 16 acres of vines that were first planted in 1970, this wine possesses terrifically fresh and spunky berry fruit enhanced by clean forest tones, loamy earth, and delicate spice. Though still quite young this wine is cheerfully forward and inviting at this stage and will certainly build even greater complexity with at least 3-5 years in the cellar. Excellent.
