2016 Willamette Valley “Titan” Pinot Noir - Bells Up Winery
Fragrant bing cherry, pine needle, cranberry cocktail. Diced strawberry, fresh rosemary, pomegranate seeds. Young violet and spring lavender, dry forest floor and meaty oyster mushroom. Expansive, ethereal, and succulent fruit gushes out in a striking and energetic display, showcasing rhubarb and crunchy boysenberry wafting alongside cherry blossom and beautiful late-autumn woodsy funk. Cardamom and cinnamon provide a pleasant backing of earthy spice muddled by mild salinity and weathered basalt. Juicy, energetic, and exceptionally balanced sitting at medium body with mild tannin and medium plus acidity. This 2016 Willamette Valley "Titan" Pinot Noir by Bells Up Winery is a terrifically expressive and delicious Oregon Pinot.
The 2016 vintage in Oregon's Willamette Valley resulted in some of the earliest harvests ever recorded in the region. Warm spring weather got bud break started early and the trend of precociousness continued all season long. This bottling, crafted by Bell's Up Winery using 100% Pinot Noir sourced from the Yamhill-Carlton and the Chehalem Mountains sub-appellations, is a wonderful expression of the character of the 2016 vintage. This wine is lusciously open and inviting at the pop of the cork yet it contains sufficient substance to support continued development. There is a unique combination of both aromatic concentration and subtle softness to the fruit here that begs to be consumed now, which is a hallmark of a warm and problem-free vintage. This wine is complex, charming, and altogether quite lovely.
