2017 “Perspective” Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir - Ayres Vineyard
Wild blueberry, pine needle, tart dark cherry. Orange zest, turned earth, crunchy boysenberry. Snappy cranberry, black raspberry, and pomegranate highlight a gorgeously delicate and aromatic fruit core intricately complicated by evergreen, lavender oil, and forest floor. Beautiful organic tones of tree bark, tea leaf, and baby bella mushroom enhance the ethereal and expansive attack offset by notes of violets and blooming red rose. Cardamom and nutmeg converge with a pinch of allspice to provide additional layers of complexity as damp earth reveals one final tribute to terroir. Precise, lively, and perfectly balanced; exhibiting flawless typicity and wonderful restraint within its delightfully serious yet unintimidating profile. Medium in body with elevated tannin and bright acidity. This 2017 "Perspective" Ribbon Ridge Pinot Noir by Ayres Vineyard is an impressively elegant, classic, and delicious red from the Willamette Valley.
Located in the northwestern corner of Oregon's Willamette Valley just southwest of Portland, Ribbon Ridge is a unique sub-appellation famous for producing darker-fruited Pinot Noir that expresses beautiful earth and spice characteristics. This bottling, crafted by Ayres Vineyard using Pinot Noir sourced from within Ribbon Ridge, spectacularly exemplifies the distinct personality of this region. While it contains no shortage of fresh and energetic berry fruit this wine manages to remain impressively delicate, conjuring just as much of its complexity through tones of soil, nature, and spice as from its fruit. This is an extremely balanced and delicious offering that punches well above its modest weight. Excellent.
