2021 “Signature Blend” Sauvignon Blanc - Buttonwood Winery & Vineyard
A charmingly bright and buoyant fruit core packed with notes of lime zest, white peach, grapefruit pith, and green apple skin playfully splashes with crisp and electric delight as complicating hints of lemongrass, wild herbs, and freshly-mowed lawn contribute a pleasantly grassy twang. Wafts of citrus blossom, wildflowers, and honey delicately emerge within a flutter of dainty floral character while subtle flecks of white pepper provide just a pinch of spice. Cool earthy impressions of river stones and textured minerality cleanly reveal palate-tingling glimpses of terroir that lead into an agreeable stainless steel-influenced snappiness. Brilliantly tangy, tart, and linear on the palate while loaded with an abundance of youthful energy and freshness; exhibiting an enticingly dry and classically-styled presentation that is straightforward and refreshing yet still nicely complex. Light bodied and coursing with radiant acidity. This 2021 "Signature Blend" Sauvignon Blanc by Buttonwood Winery & Vineyard is a juicy and vibrant white from Santa Barbara's Los Olivos District.
Although Chardonnay is by far Santa Barbara County's most widely planted white grape and absolutely thrives in the region's cooler coastal zones, Sauvignon Blanc is grown throughout the valley's eastern stretches and is ideally suited to the warm days and cool nights this area sees. This bottling, crafted by Buttonwood Winery & Vineyard using Sauvignon Blanc plus 4% Sémillon grown at Buttonwood's estate vineyards in the Los Olivos District, is an exciting example of the crisp yet characterful personality this combination of grape and place can facilitate. This beams with a range of lean and lively citrus, orchard, and stone fruits that come across as deliciously thirst-quenching and tart, and it backs them with pleasantly green herbal tones, subtle florals, and pronounced minerality. It is ready to drink immediately upon release and is likely best consumed at its freshest, however this should hold for 2-3 years with ease. Yum.
