2021 “Limited Selection” Sauvignon Blanc - Gainey Vineyard

A strikingly expressive yet still crisp and taut fruit core brimming with lemon-lime, white peach, Anjou pear, and Granny Smith apple highlights an energetic yet beautifully concentrated attack attractively underlaid with mineral notes of crushed limestone, sea salt, and weathered stones. Pleasant hints of spearmint, sour grass, and agave playfully contribute bits of clean herbal character that intertwine with pretty floral fragrances of elderflower and jasmine. A faint waft of vanilla gently reveals a delicate kiss of barrel influence that subtly softens what otherwise would be a vivaciously tart and electric edge. Brilliantly pristine and bright on the palate while remaining amply endowed in weight, dimension, and depth; exhibiting a sunshine-filled and enticingly polished presentation that effortlessly combines layered complexity with delicious refreshment. Medium-plus bodied and packed with elevated acidity. This 2021 "Limited Selection" Sauvignon Blanc by Gainey Vineyard is a pure and multidimensional white from Santa Barbara's Santa Ynez Valley. 

Located in a picturesque and bucolic valley that lies just north of the transverse Santa Ynez Mountains, the Santa Ynez Valley is one of California's most unique winegrowing regions as its close proximity to both mountains and the coast helps shape an incredibly diverse combination of soils, exposures, and meso-climates. This bottling, crafted by Gainey Vineyard using Sauvignon Blanc plus a pinch of Sauvignon Gris sourced from the Gainey Home Ranch Vineyard near the eastern end of the Santa Ynez Valley, is an extremely compelling example of how SYV terroir can facilitate a ripe yet energized style of this well-loved grape. This wine radiates an exciting range of lively citrus, stone, and orchard fruits complimented by complex herbal tones, elegant floral notes, barely-there oak spice, and saline minerality. It is nicely refined and ready to enjoy immediately upon release, yet should hold well for 2-3 years with ease. Outstanding.
