2020 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir - Big Table Farm
A deep yet beautifully lifted core of plump dark cherry, wild black raspberry, rhubarb compote, blood orange, and pomegranate highlights an expressive and delightfully energetic display brimming with pristine floral tones of lavender, jasmine, and young rose. Suggestions of moss, tree bark, and crushed pine needle tastefully impart a range of fresh forest notes that brilliantly collide with an intriguing dusting of spices including cardamom, coriander, and cinnamon. Subtle suggestions of clay and tilled loam gracefully reveal streaks of delicate earthiness that serve to enhance the complex and gorgeously textured presentation. Wonderfully pure and silky on the palate while possessing excellent depth without being the slightest bit heavy; exhibiting a serious and thoroughly irresistible combination of plushness, balance, and restraint. Medium-plus bodied with moderate smooth tannin supported by elevated acidity. This 2020 Willamette Valley Pinot Noir by Big Table Farm is an elegant and characterful red from Oregon.
Although the year 2020 was difficult for nearly everyone regardless of where you live on the planet, winegrowers in the Willamette Valley had an especially tough year due to devastating wildfires that ripped through the state in early September and destroyed or damaged significant quantities of fruit. This bottling, crafted by Big Table Farm using Pinot Noir sourced from vineyards around the Willamette Valley, proves that great wine can still be made in tough vintages. This radiates a range of plump and juicy red and black fruits layered with fresh forest tones, pretty florals, interesting spices, and delicious earthiness. It is nicely approachable already and is ready to pop and pour right away, although it should continue to develop and drink well for at least 3-5 years. Excellent.
