2020 Rosemary’s Vineyard Estate Chardonnay - Talley Vineyards

Brilliantly tense and edgy streaks of singed lemon peel, green mango, tart yellow apple, and pineapple core highlight a highly energetic yet layered display tastefully interlaced with captivating coastal notes of ocean fog, oyster shell, and nori. Mild impressions of gunpowder and smoke subtly contribute pleasant reductive qualities as hints of yogurt and freshly-baked sourdough reveal delicious leesy charms. Gentle wafts of jasmine and honeysuckle provide a clean floral aromatic overlay while faint glimmers of clove, nutmeg, and coriander expose an understated kiss of oak. Immaculately clean and pure yet angsty on the palate with a personality that comes across as tightly-wound yet still perfectly elegant; exhibiting a seemingly powerful yet still crisp and zippy presentation that perfectly balances raw intensity and polish. Medium bodied and coarsing with pronounced acidity. This 2020 Rosemary's Vineyard Estate Chardonnay by Talley Vineyards is a multidimensional and mineral white from the Arroyo Grande Valley.

Notable for its close proximity to the cold waters of the Pacific Ocean, the Arroyo Grande Valley lies near the southwestern edge of San Luis Obispo County and is unequivocally one of California's most ideal regions for cool climate viticulture. This bottling, crafted by Talley Vineyards using Chardonnay sourced from their estate Rosemary's Vineyard in the Arroyo Grande Valley, magnificently showcases the unique combination of tension, energy, and elegance that cool climate Chardonnay is capable of possessing. This boasts a bright and complex core of citrus, orchard, and tropical fruits that remain quite restrained despite their depth, and it backs them with saline coastal notes, smoky reductiveness, pretty florals, and balanced baking spices. Although extremely enjoyable today for its youthful intensity this wine would benefit from at least 3-5 years of cellar aging, and will likely continue to drink well for decades. Outstanding.
