2020 Three Sisters Vineyard Chardonnay - Martinelli Winery
Generous and expansive yet highly electric bursts of poached apple, lemon curd, ripe pineapple, and peach cobbler highlight a ripe yet terrifically rambunctious display tastefully dusted with expressive baking spices of vanilla, coriander, and cinnamon. Enticing hints of angel food cake, crème brûlée, and white chocolate gently impart bits of well integrated opulence while intriguing notes of hazelnut and macadamia add attractive nutty depth. Playful wafts of honeysuckle, jasmine, and rose bolster aromatics with a charming floral component as impressions of marine layer and saline minerality point squarely to coastal origins. Beautifully bold, lush, and succulent on the palate with outstanding tension and energy despite its impressive amplitude; exhibiting a layered and gorgeously luxurious presentation that combines full-throttle depth and concentration with delicious cool climate bite. Fully bodied and almost unctuous yet kept brilliantly fresh by bright acidity. This 2020 Three Sisters Vineyard Chardonnay by Martinelli Winery is a rich yet racy white from Sonoma's Fort Ross-Seaview.
Located in the rugged western extremes of California's Sonoma Coast, the vineyards of Fort Ross-Seaview sit perched on ridges overlooking the coast where they are often just high enough in elevation to rise above the region's notoriously thick marine fog. This bottling, crafted by Martinelli Winery using Chardonnay sourced from their estate Three Sisters Vineyard in Fort Ross-Seaview, magnificently exhibits the uncommon combination of energy and amplitude that this region is uniquely capable of producing. This booms with a bold core of orchard, citrus, stone, and tropical fruits layered with pretty barrel spices, complex nutty tones, aromatic floral notes, and unmistakably coastal earthiness. Although delicious today for its unbridled intensity, this possesses the stuffing to cellar well and would be interesting to revisit in another 5-10 years or more. Excellent.
