2020 Napa County Cabernet Sauvignon - Oberon Wines
Admirably bold yet balanced bursts of crushed black currant, wild huckleberry, tart blackberry, and dark cherry pit lead a nicely layered yet lively attack that is pleasantly complicated by intriguing herbal hints of basil, eucalyptus, and green bell pepper. Notes of violet, lavender, and potpourri softly materialize to contribute tastefully lifted floral character as subtle impressions of iron and volcanic soil impart gentle flecks of earthiness. Balanced barrel spices of clove, cinnamon, and nutmeg reveal a nicely polished oak sheen while impressions of dark chocolate and coffee grounds impart just a pinch of understated decadence. Delightfully fresh, smooth, and well balanced on the palate with a pretty texture to complement its respectable depth; exhibiting a cohesive and classically-styled presentation that comes across as both interesting and approachable. Medium bodied with slightly elevated tannin kept fresh by bright acidity. This 2020 Napa County Cabernet Sauvignon by Oberon Wines is a well made and interesting value red from California.
Although Napa is the source of many of the most expensive wines to come out of the USA, this legendary wine region is also capable of putting out wines of excellent value that remain tremendously delicious. This bottling, crafted by Oberon Wines using Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from within Napa County, is an excellent example of how good Napa Cab doesn't have to break the bank. This contains an energetic core of primarily dark fruits enhanced by pleasant herbal notes, pretty florals, elegant oak notes, and just a touch of classic Napa earthiness. It is a straightforward and authentic expression of Cabernet that is ready to enjoy immediately, but may improve with a few years of cellaring. Very nice.
