2019 Paso Robles “GSM” - Timshel Vineyards

An irresistibly lean yet still succulent core of tart raspberry, sour cherry, boysenberry, and cranberry compote beams with outstanding concentration and juiciness within a display gorgeously layered with pretty floral tones of rose petal, orchard blossom, and carnations. Hints of chaparral, bramble, and bougainvillea tastefully reveal a range of lightly wild and woody qualities that are further complicated by intriguing earthy impressions of sandstone and dry soil. Pleasant spice notes of white pepper, cinnamon, and curry spice playfully contribute to the lifted aromatics without overwhelming the plump and approachable fruit. Beautifully bright, youthful, and expressive on the palate while retaining excellent energy and tension; exhibiting a well balanced and delightfully drinkable presentation that comes across as simultaneously fun yet serious. Medium bodied with just under medium tannin backed by moderate acidity. This 2019 Paso Robles "GSM" by Timshel Vineyards is a characterful and delicious red from California.

Legendary as a traditional blend combination found in the rich and expressive wines of France's Southern Rhône Valley, "GSM" is a nickname given to red wine made from a combination of the Grenache, Syrah, and Mourvèdre grapes. This bottling, crafted by Timshel Vineyards using a blend of 40% Grenache/35% Mourvèdre/25% Syrah sourced from within Paso Robles, showcases how well this classic style can perform in the warmer reaches of California's Central Coast. Made in a balanced and easy-drinking style, this generously spills gobs of tart and juicy red and black fruits layered with aromatic floral tones, brambly herbal notes, intriguing spices, and mild earthiness. This is ready to pop and pour immediately and likely will not improve significantly with further aging, although it should hold well for 2-3 years with ease. Yum.
