2019 Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon - LOCALISM Wines

Enticingly dense and extracted eruptions of boysenberry preserves, dark plum, blueberry compote, and chocolate covered cherry lead a magnificently concentrated yet still elegant display that is pleasantly layered with intriguing herbal tones of crushed mint, garden sage, rolling tobacco, and roasted bell pepper. Notes of cinnamon stick, vanilla bean, and anise gently emerge to impart a range of well integrated spices that are effortlessly enhanced by perfumed floral wafts of peonies, violet, and potpourri. Hints of iron and volcanic soil gracefully contribute bits of lightly rugged earthiness that is offset by the balanced opulence of mocha, milk chocolate, and toffee. Impressively powerful, broad-shouldered, and mouth-coating on the palate while remaining thoroughly authentic and even delicate where it counts; exhibiting a rich, chewy, and intensely structured presentation that boasts outstanding purity, tension, and complexity within its muscular exterior. Medium-plus bodied with pronounced grippy tannin backed by surprisingly elevated acidity. This 2019 Coombsville Cabernet Sauvignon by LOCALISM Wines is a bold yet well balanced red from Napa Valley.

Located near the southern edge of Napa Valley not far from the cold waters of the San Pablo Bay, the appellation of Coombsville experiences a substantially cooler climate than more northern parts of the valley which helps it shape wines that can remain bright and balanced yet still delightfully rich and ripe. This bottling, crafted by LOCALISM Wines using Cabernet Sauvignon sourced from within Coombsville, is an exciting example of the merits of growing warm climate grape varieties in areas that have historically been considered more marginal. This booms with powerful layers of blue, black, and red fruits that possess plenty of finesse despite their substantial weight, and it follows with gorgeous herbal character, lifted florals, well integrated barrel spices, and a pinch of chocolaty decadence. The structure and energy of this wine make it perfectlyl suited to extended cellar aging, yet it is already enjoyable today with a moderate decant. Excellent.
