2018 Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir - Ayres Vineyard & Winery
Barely-ripe raspberry, crushed rock, raw cranberry. Crisp watermelon, rosemary sprig, juicy white peach. Vibrant and zippy bursts of tart strawberry, underripe pomegranate, yellow cherry, and grapefruit zest highlight a crisp and surprisingly complex fruit core intricately embellished with hints of citrus blossom, pine needle, and pink sea salt. Delicate floral notes of jasmine, rose petal, and lavender emerge within wafts of dainty perfume that intertwines with fresh thyme in a lightly herbal twist. Subtle forest tones of evergreen and fallen leaves reveal a streak of mild organic charm while fresh salinity and stony minerals impart persistent blasts of remarkably clean earthiness. Elegant and expressive on the nose while remaining bright and focused on the palate; exhibiting crystalline purity and a uniquely mineral texture that is simultaneously thirst quenching and intriguing. Medium in body and perfectly balanced by near-electric high acidity. This 2018 Estate Rosé of Pinot Noir by Ayres Vineyard & Winery is a terrifically layered, energetic, and serious rosé from Oregon's Ribbon Ridge.
Although the Willamette Valley's tiny sub-appellation of Ribbon Ridge is known for producing tremendously ethereal and expressive Pinot Noir, this small but mighty region is also the home of some unquestionably impressive rosé. This bottling, crafted by Ayres Vineyard & Winery using Pinot Noir grown on their Ribbon Ridge estate, showcases an excitingly distinct and delicious take on classically-styled rosé. While certainly fresh, delicate, and refreshing this wine contains a cornucopia of wonderfully delineated fruit that marries incredible complexity and crispness. Its floral, forest, and herbal notes are particularly notable and combine with textured minerality to provide a special drinking experience. Outstanding.
