2018 Prosa - Meinklang
Fresh-picked strawberry, crushed rock, plump tangerine. Young raspberry, soft cherry blossom, juicy peach. Simple, clean, and unpretentious, packed with fresh and juicy farmstand berries shining brightly and complemented by delightfully spritzy effervescence. Zingy minerality backs the youthful and primary fruit, extending the finish and adding palpable crunch. Uncomplicated and dry on the palate, boasting elevated acidity that quenches and refreshes. Extremely low in alcohol at 10.5% ABV; perfectly sessionable and lunch friendly. This 2018 "Prosa" by Meinklang is a straightforward and fun Pinot Noir based Frizzante from eastern Austria.
Sparkling wine comes in many unique and delicious styles. This bottling, crafted by Meinklang using a blend of Pinot Noir/Blaufränkisch/Zweigelt sourced from their biodynamic estate in Burgenland Austria, playfully explores the lightly sparkling Frizzante style popularized in Northern Italy. While it lacks the layered complexity and sheer depth of an aged Methode Champenoise cuvée this wine is wonderfully lighthearted and bright. It presents clean and juicy fruit, rocky minerality, and nice crispness while remaining exceptionally lean and fresh. This wine is perfect for any occasion when uncomplicated enjoyment is the end goal, and it promises to pair well with nearly any dish served alongside it. A delightful discovery we made thanks to our good friends at Rae Vino.
