2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Pinot Noir - Sangiacomo Family Wines
Vibrant cranberry, rose petal, plump red cherry. Blood orange, ground coriander, pomegranate juice. Ripe and expansive yet elegant eruptions of raspberry, crushed strawberry, and red currant burst with hauntingly ethereal fragrance enhanced by complicating impressions of cinnamon, pinecone, and potpourri. Expressive floral tones continue unabated as suggestions of peonies and carnations waft playfully into frame balanced by subtle natural tones of forest floor, white mushroom, and evergreen. Hints of cardamom and nutmeg emerge within a parade of outgoing yet well integrated baking spices that pirouette above pleasantly terroir-focused notes of loamy earth, ocean air, and dried seaweed. Impressively bold, vibrant, and vivacious on the nose while remaining flirtatiously juicy and pretty on the palate; exhibiting a succulent yet serious profile defined by excellent balance, weightless power, and delicate concentration. Medium plus in body with soft moderate tannin backed by elevated acidity. This 2018 Roberts Road Vineyard Pinot Noir by Sangiacomo Family Wines is a captivating and brilliantly perfumed red from the Sonoma Coast's Petaluma Gap.
While it does see consistent enough sunshine to allow for outstanding ripening of wine grapes, Sonoma's Petaluma Gap subregion is set apart by the cooling influence of dense ocean fog that pours in from a pronounced gap in the nearby coastal hills. This bottling, crafted by Sangiacomo Family Wines using Pinot Noir sourced from their famed Roberts Road Vineyard, captures the true essence and character of what makes Petaluma Gap Pinot so special. This wine beguilingly radiates aromatic and highly expressive red fruit notes that remain tart and taut despite incredible depth, and in the midst of its impressive contraction it never strays from coming across as perfectly delicate and elegant. Although it certainly leans fruit-forward there is still plenty of earthy and natural nuance to be observed here, and tertiary flavors will only continue to blossom with more bottle age. Absolutely delicious.
