2017 Blanc de Blancs - Sparkling Pointe
Impressively complex and layered waves of lemon peel, Asian pear, pineapple core, and grapefruit zest lead an elegant yet brilliantly expressive display brimming with delightfully delicate effervescence. Notes of blanched almond, macadamia nut, and brioche gently contribute delicious nutty and bready character that playfully mingles with lightly decadent hints of crème brûlée and cinnamon. A faint impression of oyster shell subtly imparts bits of fresh and clean salinity while apple blossom, jasmine, and daffodil emerge within gorgeous streaks of lifted floral perfume. Impressively pretty, polished, and interesting on the palate while expressing an incredible assortment of primary, secondary, and tertiary flavor components; exhibiting a bright and surprisingly aromatic presentation that is classically-styled and tremendously complex. Medium bodied and backed by beautifully elevated acidity. This 2017 Blanc de Blancs by Sparkling Pointe is an exciting and well-made Méthode Champenoise sparkling wine from the North Fork of Long Island.
Located near the far eastern edge of New York State and heavily influenced by its immediate proximity to the Atlantic Ocean, the North Fork of Long Island is one of the northeastern USA's most exciting winegrowing regions and has proven to help shape high quality examples of both still and sparkling wine. This bottling, crafted by Sparkling Pointe using 100% Chardonnay grown within the North Fork, perfectly captures the potential of this region to produce world class bubbly. This elegantly bursts with an expressive yet flawlessly balanced anchoring of citrus, orchard, and stone fruits complimented by pretty floral tones, pronounced leesy character, slight nuttiness, and nicely saline earthiness. This easily stands up against both similarly priced Champagne and other American sparkling wines, and even likely has another 3-5 of positive development ahead of it. Outstanding.
